The original mill on the is location was built c.1832 but burned down in 1856. P Whitin and Sons bought the property and built this mill in 1856 and installed 10,000 spindles for cotton cloth making. The mill was expanded in 1890 and then again in 1895/96. At it's peak the mill employed 900 people and had 64,000 cotton spindles. While there has been alterations to the mill over time, it is remarkably intact.
Today the mill houses some retail outlets and a molded plastic manufacturing company.
