This monument to the U.S. Troops from Missouri in recognition of their service during the Battle of Missionary Ridge, fought November 25, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Nov.25, 1863. This Battle was part of the Chattanooga Campaign and is preserved and maintained as part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

Short Significance Description:

Monument contributes to national significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.


Short Physical Description

6' x 3' x 6' granite monument consists of rectangular slab on two-step base with a projecting capstone. Stones of base are rock-faced, while main slab is polished and inscribed.
