The aerial lift station of Fiesch is located in the south of the town, close to the center.
The lift was built in 1966 as an aerial tramway with a length of 2937 meters and a capacity of 270 passengers per hour.
The lift goes up to Fiescheralp or Kühboden (the two terms seem to be exchangeable, but I am not totally sure), an skiing area in winter and great for hiking in summer with hotels, restaurants and holiday apartments.
From there you can take an additional lift up to Eggishorn, one of the places with the best view over the world-famous Aletsch glacier.
In 1974 an additional aerial tramway was built just next to the first one, with larger cabins (100 passengers). The two lifts run side by side. There's a ride every 30 minutes during the main seasons.
