The unnamed narrator of Knut Hamsun's novel "Hunger" is an impoverishd writer who is often forced by circumstance to be homeless. He spends much of his time walking the streets of Oslo....too proud to ask for help.
In Part Three, he goes to a cafe in the hope of meeting a friend who might help...but once again, the friend is not there. He then continues his roaming.
"I walked around the Palace three or four times and then decided to go home, took yet another turn into the park, and finally went back down Karl Johan Street."
