This plaque is dedicated to the 98th Ohio Infantry Regiment Monument and is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. It marks their location on Sunday 20, 1863 from about 1:30 PM until 6:00 PM. The commanders of the regiment were Capt. Moses J. Urquhart and Capt. Armstrong J. Thomas. There is only one monument to the 98th Ohio Infantry Regiment on the battlefield.

To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Snodgrass Hill, head west pass the monuments on the hilltop. A trail will continue to the west near the 87th Indiana and the 2nd Minnesota monuments. Follow this path until you reach a clearing.

is the taller monument in the middle of the 3 monuments along the path.

Text on the rear:

This Regiment arrived on the field Sept. 20th 1863, about 1:30 P.M. It went into action about 2:00 P.M. being on the left of the first line of the brigade. It gained this position by assault and occupied and held it until 6:00 P.M. Loss: killed 9; wounded 41; captured or missing; 13.

5' square at base & 9' high, monument has rock-faced base, battered pedestal with bronze state seal, smooth raised lettered shaft framed by rock-faced slabs & carved crossed swords & laurel wreath in cap.
