This beautifully restored Model T is just inside the entry to the Family Museum in Bettendorf and welcomes visitors to experience its quality with a hands-on experience. A sign tells about the history:

“1917 Model T Roadster. How Old is This Car? This is a real 1917 Model T Roadster manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Finley McGinnis, a local mortician, collected many vintage cars and enjoyed driving them. His sister, Lottie Earnst, donated the cars to the Museum for people to enjoy.”

“It was a proud day for the McGinnis family, when Preston drove up to his Princeton, Iowa funeral home in a brand new Model T Ford. A few minutes after he went in the house, a neighbor called to report that his son, 10 year old Finley, had just cruised off down the road in the gleaming roadster.

“That began a love affair with automobiles that lasted until Finley’s death. As an adult he collected and restored many old cars and hearses. Part of his collection, including this 1917 Model T Ford, was given to the museum.

“The Model T on display is not the same one that Finley drove in 1917 but it’s just like it. Mr. McGinnis purchased this roadster in 1966 in St. Cloud, MN.”

The Family Museum is located at 2900 Learning Campus Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa which is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days; there is a $7 admission fee for a day of fun at the entire museum.
