Today, the building is home to the Dirt Road Divas, a boutique and coffee shop. The sign itself says:
This building was erected in 1893 by Captain Thomas J. Towles, Confederate Veteran who served in Co. G, 3rd TX Cav. & wounded in the Atlanta Campaign. He served the Co. as Sheriff, Tax Collector & State Representative. During The County Seat War in 1877 Towles led Canton citizens to Wills Point in protest of the removal of the county seat from Canton. Born in 1849 in GA, Towles came to Van Zandt Co. at age 14. Dying in 1909, he is buried in The Canton City cemetery. Civic Leader Henry Lewis purchased the building in 2004 and restored it.
