The Geelong Peace Memorial was built to commemorate the soldiers who served in World War One, and continues this role with the addition of names of service men and woman who served in every war since. Inside the memorial is a grand foyer that has the names of the 3,500 who enlisted from the district inscribed in panels on the walls.
On the front outside wall are granite tablets inscribed with the major battlefields of the Great War ,Gallipoli,Palestine and France, although started in 1922 the memorial was not finished until 1926
