Watonga was former Cheyenne Arapaho Indian Reservation land, which was opened up for settlement by white settlers with the Land Run of 1892. The town is the County Seat of Blaine County, and has a population of approximately 5200 people.
The town was incorporated in 1903 and has a Statutory Alderman form of government, under the leadership of the Mayor and City Council. There are eight city councilmen, who meet the first and third Tuesdays at 7:30pm. City Hall houses the various city offices, as well as the Municipal Court, which is in session the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 3:30pm.
City Hall is a two-story red brick building with the main entrance facing east, consisting of a single aluminum and glass door under a decorative arched brickwork. This brickwork continues across the facade above the ground floor windows. The building was constructed in 1930 and is in good condition. Tall four-over-two double hung windows are located on both floors, with smaller windows above the entrance. The upper wall has a decorative row of checkerboard brick work using a darker brick for accent.
