In the church built at the site of his birthplace, a plaque reads:

"No dia 12 de Maio de 1982
O Santo Padr Joao Paulo II
Por Sua iniciativa e devocao
visitou e orou neste lugar
onde nasceu Santo Antonio
750 Aniversario morte de Sto. Antonio"

which Google translates as:
