He bought the restaurant immediately after Tulip Time in 1983, but the Windmill was in disrepair. Still, he sensed a golden opportunity to provide breakfast and lunch patrons with comfort food at a fair price that makes people line up outside the front doors.
McMurray partnered with his brother to buy the business, but it wasn’t until 12 years ago he was able to purchase the building outright.
His brother, Bill, left the business after a couple of years, but McMurray remains forever grateful to him for helping the restaurant rebuild its reputation.
His wife, children Curt and Amber, son-in-law Mark, sisters-in-law Mel and Kathy, niece Amy and former brother-in-law Jack, who has been cooking at the restaurant since McMurray first acquired it, are part of the friendly staff. They know many customers by first names and many more by their breakfast orders.
