Long Description:
Long term resort living for insects on The Nectar Trail
As development in the city makes it harder for bees to interact with each other and find food, a trail of bee-friendly spaces has been created in central Vancouver. This insect hotel - created by the Environmental Youth Alliance and Contexture Design - is one of the stops along "The Nectar Trail". Installed in 2013, it was made out of a decommissioned telephone booth and contains 12 cedar boxes. Each box contains a variety of materials to entice insects - especially bees - to stop for a visit. Some of the materials include blocks of wood filled with deep holes, lengths of hollow bamboo, rolled-up paper tubes, pieces of bark, and even plants growing in glass jars.
