Anyone visiting Graveyard Fields and seeing its natural beauty might wonder about the origin of its name. There are several signs on Graveyard Fields that explain a few theories. The gist being, that many years ago a tremendous windstorm uprooted the spruce forest, or a fire burnt the trees to stumps, that gave the area the appearance of a graveyard.
All was destroyed by a serious fire in 1925 which resulted in the ground being sterilised.
