This beautiful sundial is located in the garden of the castle just beside the statue of Egon Graf von und zu Westerholt und Gysenberg.
Schloss Westerholt is a moated castle located in the district Westerholt
in the city of Herten. It is the ancestral seat of the counts of Westerholt. This aristocratic family was first named in the year 1193.
There is a German text on the plaque of the sundial:
"Diese antike Sonnenuhr wurde anläßlich
des 90ten Geburtstages von
Egon Graf von und zu Westerholt und Gysenberg
im Auftrage seiner Verwandten und Freunde
von Bildhauermeister
Anton Schmitz aus Bonn renoviert
und hier in Westerholt
zum 30ten März 2000 wieder aufgestellt."
