In Chapter 4 of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", Nick Caraway, the narrator is picked up by his neighbor, Jay Gatsby and they drive to New York City from Long Island to have lunch. Along the way, Gatsby informs Caraway that he, Caraway, will have a meeting with Jordan Baker, a professional female golfer who is an acquaintance of both men. The meeting with Baker takes place at The Plaza Hotel and Baker proceeds to tell the story of how her friend Daisy Buchanan used to be in love with Gatsby. Daisy is now married to one of Caraway's friend's Tom Buchanan who coincidentally the two men ran into during lunch. After Baker tells the story to Caraway, the two take a ride in Central Park in a horse-drawn carriage.
