This sign is part of the Wahikuli Interpretive Trail.

Hanaka'o'o Cemetery, across the road behind you, is the final resting place of some of the immigrants who came to work in Hawai'i's sugar and pineapple plantations. Like the women shown in this photo, these immigrants labored in hot, dusty fields so that they and their children could lead better lives. They were among thousands of workers who came to Hawai'i, beginning in 1850s, from China, Japan, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Korea, Spain and the Philippines. Many remained in Hawai'i, founding families who today make up the multicultural community of the Islands.
