There is a district in Herten called "Alt Westerholt" where you can find a lot of old half-timber houses. This part of the town is situated just in the north of the castle of Westerholt.
The house with the mural is a monument since 1986. Nowadays it is used as a restaurant.
The mural shows a scene of bygone times in the old village of Westerholt.
You can see some half-timber houses and the Schloßkapelle St. Martinus with the old bell tower.
