The station Hammer is the first station on the sa-called Gäu-Bahn after Olten. This line connects Olten with Solothurn and opened in 1876. It was operated by Schweizeriche Centralbahn until 1902, then it became part of Schweizerische Bundesbahn SBB.
The line was electrified in 1927 and extended to double track between 1950 and 1955.
Today Hammer is served by two trains per hour in each direction. The station is also served by four bus lines.
The current main building of the station was built in 1935, when the station was modernized a first time.
