Built in 1883-1884 in an Italianate style, the Nebraska Loan and Trust Company Building was built as an office building with space for Nebraska Loan and Trust Company, which operated for more than 20 years. Nebraska Loan and Trust Company was succeeded in the building by another savings and loan, Clarke-Buchanan Company, founded in 1903.
