Flanking Congress Parkway at the western edge of Grant Park are these two paired equestrian statues, finished in 1928 by Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. The piece is composed of two separate statues: the northern one depicts a Native American archer on horseback with the bowstring pulled back, while the southern statue depicts a spearman in the midst of a throw.
The statues are both quite sizeable, and are centerpieces of a small plaza near the intersection of Congress Parkway and Michigan Avenue.
