Walter Vincent was born Oct. 12, 1921, on a farm near De Smet to Loyd (Jake) and Anna (Kaster) Vincent. He attended school in Erwin.
He joined the Navy in November 1944. He was discharged from the service in June 1946.
He married Joyce Jensen April 13, 1946, at De Smet. After his discharge from the service, he returned to the Erwin area and began farming.
He served on the Erwin School board. He was a member of the West Bethany Church and later of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant. He was a member of the American Legion in Erwin.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of De Smet; three sons, Terry (Patty) Vincent of Elkton, and Andy (Betty) Vincent and John (Marlys) Vincent, both of Lake Preston; two brothers, William (Mavis) Vincent of Erwin, and Ralph Vincent of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Donna (Larry) Frohm of Burnsville, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Larson of Rapid City, and Florence Vincent of Farmington, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Manjel Dierke of Canon Falls, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vida and Hazel; and two brothers, Kenneth and Rolland (Red.
