It was designed by Percy Everett, and constructed by Bernard Murphy in 1919.It was officially named and opened by the Mayor, Alderman H Hitchcock, who funded the project in memory of his mother.
The unique bandstand, which is circular in plan, is constructed of metal on a concrete base.
Arched walls support the main structure, and the diagonal wing walls terminate in decorative urns.
Triple columns support the intricate roof on the circular balustrade. The dome is a curved tiled roof with a tall timber flagpole on top.
The bandstand with its surrounding palms and lawns is now a popular backdrop to the many events that take place in the park.
