This wheel is part of a display demonstrating the technology of gold panning. The wheel has a diameter of about four feet. It is driven by water running through a wooden trough. The display is part of the Hidden Treasure Gold Mine in Columbia State Historic Park.

Unfortunately, during the week (when we visited) the equipment is just on display and there is no water running through the trough. At the weekend, however, the wheel and other equipment are used for demonstrations, giving children a chance to experience gold panning as the Fourtyniners did.

Visit Instructions:
Please give the date of your visit and a brief description of your experience and any additional information you may have about the waterwheel, its current condition, etc. We would very much like at least one original photo from your visit, but it is not absolutely necessary.
