THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

Dedicate this copy of the Statue of Liberty as a pledge of everlasting fidelity and loyalty.

40th Anniversary Crusade to strengthen the arm of liberty.

Proper description: "A female figure, representing Liberty, stands wearing a long flowing robe and a spiked crown. Her proper right hand is upraised and holds a torch, and her proper left hand cradles an inscribed tablet. Statue is mounted upon a base and set within a star-shaped planter" ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum

Remarks: "This is one of nearly 200 small replicas of Bartholdi's Statue of Liberty (IAS record 76003645) placed around the country as part of the Boy Scouts of America's 40th anniversary (1950). According to a March 1986 Fact Sheet from the Boy Scouts of America, the idea for the project originated with Jack Whitaker, then Scout Commissioner of the Kansas City Area Council. The copper statues were manufactured by Friedley-Voshardt Co. (Chicago, IL) and purchased through the Kansas City Boy Scouts office." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum

"Help renovate Concordia's "Little Sister of Lady Liberty." Concordia Lions Club is restoring the Little Liberty Statue that was given to Concordia from the Boy Scouts in 1950. The Boy Scouts of America placed about 200 statues of 8-foot, 4-inch Little Liberties in cities across America to celebrate their 40th Anniversary theme, "Strenthen the Arm of Liberty." There are only about 100 of these statues left in the United States. This little Liberty is located in Central Park in Concordia, MO and needs our attention. The Concordia Lions Club estimates that it will cost between $8,000-$10,000 to restore her. The Concordia Lions Club is also planning on relocating the statue to a more central location inside Central Park" ~ Concordia Area Chamber of Commerce
