"Zu dem Gelände führen vier Eingänge: an der Via Pinciana, der Piazza H. Sienkiewicz, dem Piazzale Brasile und dem Piazzale Flaminio. Der Zugang zum Casino, in dem die Kunstsammlung der Galleria Borghese untergebracht ist, befindet sich am Piazzale Scipione Borghese 5.
Die Villa mit ihren ausgedehnten Parkanlagen (ca. 5 km² groß) war der Sommerpalast des borghesischen Fürstengeschlechts. Das Gelände war 1605 von Kardinal Scipione Caffarelli-Borghese, dem Neffen Papst Pauls V., erworben worden, angeblich auch mit dem konfiszierten Vermögen der Familie Cenci.
Ursprünglich gehörten zu dem Gelände Weinberge, Gärten, Ställe und Remisen, sowie ein Tiergarten mit seltenen Tieren und Pflanzen, eine Volière und Wasserspiele. Bereits im 17. Jahrhundert war sie aber auch schon wegen ihrer Schätze antiker Kunst berühmt. Das Casino wurde zwischen 1613 und 1616 erbaut unter der Leitung der Architekten Giovanni Vasanzio und Flaminio Ponzio.
In den Jahren 1898/99 diente sie dem Päpstlichen Portugiesischen Kolleg als Unterkunft.

The Villa with its extensive parks (5 km²) was the summer palace of the Borghese princely family. The site was in 1605 by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V. acquired, allegedly with the confiscated assets of the Cenci family.
Originally belonged to the premises vineyards, gardens, stables and outbuildings, and a zoo with rare animals and plants, an aviary and water games. In the 17th century it was also famous only because of their treasures of ancient art. The casino was built in 1613-1616 under the direction of the architect Giovanni and Flaminio Ponzio Vasanzio.
