The AMX-13 is a French light tank produced from 1953 to 1985. It served with the French Army, as the Char 13t-75 Modèle 51, and was exported to over twenty-five other nations. Named after its initial weight of 13 tonnes, and featuring a tough and reliable chassis, it was fitted with an oscillating turret built by GIAT Industries (now Nexter) with revolver type magazines which were also used on the Austrian SK-105 Kürassier. Including prototypes and export versions there are over a hundred variants including self-propelled gun, anti-aircraft systems, APCs, and ATGM versions. Total production of the AMX-13 family is approximately 7,700 units, around 3,400 of which were exported.
Operations, the Israeli Defense Army employs in combat during the crisis of the Suez Canal in 1956, the Six Day War of 1967 and the Yom Kippur War of 1973.
AMX-13 of the Indian armed forces are used during the Battle of Asal Uttar, one of the decisive moments of the Second Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and the largest tank engagement since the Second World War. The Americans would have concluded that the 75 mm of the AMX-13, such as 20 pounds / 84 mm of Centurion, could pierce the shield of Patton.
In France, in the early 1980s, about 1,010 of these tanks are in the park terre1 army, then they are being replaced in the mechanized regiments by the AMX-30. A squadron of 16 AMX-13/90 and AMX-VCI remain in service until 1990 at the 30th fighter group of the 7th Armoured Division.

L'AMX-13 est un char léger français produit à 7 700 exemplaires (dont 3 400 exportés dans 35 pays) entre 1953 et 1985. Son châssis a servi de base à de nombreux engins blindés allant du transport de troupes (AMX-13 VCI) au lance-missile antichars, en passant par la pièce d'artillerie équipée d'un canon de 105 ou 155 mm.
En opérations, l'armée de défense d'Israël l'emploie au combat durant la crise du canal de Suez en 1956, la guerre des Six Jours de 1967 et la guerre du Kippour de 1973.
Les AMX-13 des forces armées indiennes sont utilisés lors de la bataille d'Asal Uttar, l'un des moments décisifs de la Deuxième Guerre indo-pakistanaise de 1965 et le plus grand engagement de chars depuis la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Les Américains auraient conclu que le 75 mm de l'AMX-13, comme le 20 livres/84 mm du Centurion, pouvait perforer le blindage du Patton.
En France, au début des années 1980, environ 1 010 de ces chars sont en parc dans l'armée de terre1, ils sont alors en cours de remplacement dans les régiments mécanisé par les AMX-30.
