Looks like a strange place for a memorial, but this use to be the mouth of the river bridge into Lexington, and behind the memorial are the stairs to Highland Ave.

This monument was erected to the Lafayette County men who lost their lives in this World War.
When and by who, the additional inscriptions are not known,,,as a matter of fact the Historical Society and the local veterans groups wish who ever did it, didn't do it
