První Židé se zde usídlili pomerne záhy po založení mestecka, pricemž podstatnou okolností se stala poloha Boskovic, jako stanice, pri dálkových obchodních cestách. Nejstarší písemná zpráva o Židu a Boskovicích se vztahuje již k r. 1343 (B. Bretholz ji uvádí ve své sbírce pramenu k dejinám moravských Židu ve stredoveku pod c. 40).
