With construction of the bridge beginning in 1950, it was completed in 1951. In design it is a steel Warren deck truss of 695.9 feet in total length. The longest span is 240.2 feet while the deck is 26.2 feet in width. Along the deck are precast concrete posts and railing, with heavy corner posts. Each corner post on the right side of the bridge carries its date of construction - 1951 - embossed in the concrete.
