The Errol Barrow Statue is a 9-ft tall bronze statue weighing 2000 pounds and was sculpted by St. Lucian sculptor Ricky George. It depicts Errol Barrow standing with his left hand raised and his right behind his back as if we was giving a speech. The statue is a tribute to Barbados' Father of Independence and a commemoration of his contribution to transforming the political, social and physical landscape of Barbados.

Errol Walton Barrow, PC, QC (21 January 1920 – 1 June 1987) was the first Prime Minister of Barbados with a political career that lasted 36 years up until his death in 1987.

The "Dipper" as he was affectionately known was well-loved among the general Barbadian public because of his humility and friendliness. He is best-known for being the one who took Barbados into Independence on November 30th 1966 and for his pursuits as a Royal Air Force Pilot in World War II as well as for his efforts for regional integration in the Caribbean.

Mr. Barrow was also credited with the democratisation of the education system, the provision of free secondary and tertiary education, the introduction of a National Insurance and Social Security Scheme and free school meals to Primary Schools, and this is just to name a few of his achievements.

By an act of Parliament in 1998, Errol Barrow was named as one of the ten National Heroes of Barbados.

The inscription on the plaque reads:

"The Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow / National Hero / Father of Independence / January 21, 1920 to June 1, 1987 / Premier of Barbados 1961 1966 / First Prime Minister of Barbados 1966 - 1976 / Prime Minister 1986 - 1987"
