Frank Lewis Emanuel ws born in London in 1865. He studied art athe Slade School and at the Academie Julian in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and the Royal Academy from 1886, and the Meryon Galleries in 1912. He wrote for the Architectural Review and for the Guardian. He published art books, including The Illustrators of Montmartre and Etchings and Etchings. He taught etching at the Central School from 1918 to 1930. He died in London in 1948.
