The sign features the figure of a man on one side and a woman on the other side, both wearing old rural clothing. The inscription "Welcome to St. Kitts" can be seen on both side.
Saint Kitts and the neighbouring island of Nevis constitute one country: the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The capital of the two-island nation, and also its largest port, is the town of Basseterre on Saint Kitts. The National Museum is located in the Old Treasury building. It officially opened in 2002.
