An elementary school since 1909, this was known as the Vernon Central School until it was renamed Beairsto School in 1961.

Not only has the school undergone a name change in its lifetime, but it has undergone a major paradigm change, as well. Since 1982, École Beairsto has been the home of School District No. 22's Elementary French Immersion Programme. It is the largest single-track French Immersion elementary school in British Columbia and the largest elementary school in the Vernon School District.

The renaming of the school was to honour Harold K. Beairsto, who was principal of the school from 1925 to 1961.
