Driveway entrance is from Kirk Balk. A footpath gate further along the same road, plus a footpath entrance from Hawshaw Lane.

The cemetery was opened by Hoyland Nether Urban District Council in 1935 after the local St. Peter Church graveyard extension was full. The cemetery was taken over by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council in 1974 under the local council reorganisations.
It has eight plots. 1CofE, 2NC, 3CofE, 4CofE, 8RC, 10CofE, Cremation Plot and Baby Glade, plus room for extensions. An approximate estimate of two thousand five hundred interments. A small chapel at the head of the driveway also houses some cremation ashes.

In the NC and CofE plots there some CWGC graves from WW1 and WW2, also family graves with information of dead from both wars.
