"When taking a day trip or just a dinner trip to the Oasis at Lake Travis, it’s easy to see why the area is dubbed the Sunset Capital of Texas.

Most people that have been to the Oasis think of just the restaurant, which is a massive part of the area, but there is much more to it.

There is a developing shopping area, a very cool antique shop called the Treasury, wine tasting, cigar shops and more – but the restaurant is the major pull, with its classic sunset dining.

In 1979, 500 acres of land on the shoreline of Lake Travis were purchased, with only a small ranch house on it, to begin the start of the Oasis. The idea was to build a restaurant perched on top of the hill on the plot to overlook the lake. That idea grew, and by 1982, minor renovations were made to the ranch house and it was opened as the Oasis Restaurant and Cantina Del Lago.

In 2005, the Oasis grew to be one of the biggest restaurants on the globe, and seating 2,800 people, it was definitely the largest in Texas. That same year, the Oasis was destroyed by a fire. Before the fire, much of the Oasis’ seating was outdoors and included and entertainment venue, and in the two years following the fire, the restaurant was able to remain open by continuing to use the outdoor seating, a food truck and what was left of the venue.

When the original place was destroyed, the opportunity to completely redo the idea surfaced, and the four-story Oasis – properly named – was created.

Today, each of the rooms inside the restaurant has a different feeling and theme, but the commonality between all of them is relaxing and pampering. Though it (only!?) seats around 2,500, it is still one of the largest restaurants in the world, has an indoor entertainment facility, retractable roof panels on the third floor and several different banquet rooms for private events like weddings and more.

The Oasis hosts many different events that are open to the public [... Also] all summer, the Oasis has a sunset photo contest going on, with a $500 prize and other prizes from the Oasis area. [...]"
