Originally built as the city hall and the fire hall, this substantial brick building has been added to, the fire department has moved to newer and larger quarters and the building is now shared with the Enderby & District Museum.
Construction of City Hall commenced in 1909 and opening ceremonies were held on January 26, 1910. The building initially contained city offices, council chambers, a library and a single bay fire hall. This was Enderby's second city hall and its first real fire hall. Prior to the completion of this building fire fighting apparatus, as well as city equipment, was kept in a temporary wood frame building.
This building was renovated in 1987, receiving a 4000 square foot addition at the same time, much of which now houses the Enderby & District Museum. The fire department had long before vacated the premises as a result of the need for larger quarters. Today the fire hall is about six blocks north of the city hall, still adjacent to the highway.
In the photo below, taken shortly after construction, the fire hall door and sign can be seen on the left side of the building, with the fire bell tower above, long ago removed.
