Five miles west is "Herda Cottage", site of the home of Colonel Edmund Scarborough (Scarburgh), surveyor central of the colony. Beyond, at the end of Scarborough's Neck, was the village of the Occahannock Indians, the seat of Debedeavon, the "Laughing King."
