This plaque is dedicated to Scogin’s Georgia Battery, commanded by Capt. John Scogin in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 20, 1863. This is one of four plaques to Scogin’s Georgia Battery on the battlefield.
To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Reed’s Bridge Road, follow the path south to the marker. Pass the table for Strahl's Brigade (CSA). The path will fork, continue straight (south) along the same path. This path will dead end in to a path running east – west. Alexander’s Bridge and Battleline Roads will be to the west.
Text on the plaque reads:
Scogin’s Georgia Battery.
2 6 Pdrs., 2 12 Pdr. Howitzers.
Jackson’s Brigade, Cheatham’s Division, Polk’s Corps.
September 20, 1863

The battery came into position on this ground about 4 P.M. under a heavy direct and cross-fire, and aided materially in the success of the final assault on this part of the line, and held the position until the fight closed.
Casualties of the battle: 1 private killed; 1 officer and 10 privates wounded.
