The stone memorial plaque is located at the south wall of Eckardsberg, a look-out platform and the remains of a castle south of Breisach.
The plaque commemorates Kurmärkisches Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 14. A unit of the Prussian Army that was garrisonned in Colmar from 1871 to 1918.
Colmar is now French, so a first memorial was erected in Breisach close to the border in 1929. It was a twelve meters high obelisk. In World War II the obelisk was destroyed. The current stone plaque was erected in 1982.
