The largest park in Kamloops is Riverside Park, less than a kilometre west of Pioneer Park. It is the oldest, most developed park, while Pioneer Park is newer and less developed.
At the entrance to the park one will see a caboose and a cattle car on display just before spying the main parking lot. The park is primarily an open grassed area with many shade trees and a small beach fairly well protected from the current of the river. This is a popular sun bathing park in the summer, with wash rooms and drinking water on the southern edge of the park, by the parking lot. The beach, BTW, is an off leash dog beach, while the park is an on leash dog park.
