Riverside Park in Kamloops was begun in 1905, on the former site of a lumber mill and a pig farm. Since its inception it has been the major park in the city, with the greatest number of amenities. It is far and away the most used park in the city.

Near the southwest corner of the large park is a circular rose garden, the roses for which were donated to the city by Mrs. Meryl Matthews. To the west of the main rose garden is a second, smaller rose garden dedicated to the memory of Princess Di. A later addition to the park, after the other rose garden, it was dedicated on August 31, 1998.
