The "bear pit" is a misnomer. While the original home for the bears was below the viewing area they now have a very nice "bear habitat".

The Baylor Bear mascots have a nice enclosure with natural surroundings. There's a walkway all around the edge where you can see the bears sleeping, eating, and swimming. The bears do have a private area where they can't be observed.
