NZ0483 - USCGS 'F 56' BM - Grants Pass, OR - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey BM from 1930 in good condition. This brass disk is monumented on top of a concrete sidewalk, flush with the surface, on the SW corner of Caveman Bridge that spans the Rogue River. This BM appears on a topography map as 'BM 922'. There is also the designation stamping of 'F 56', '1930' and the elevation stamping of '920.973' on the disk face. The NGS datasheet is adequate for station recovery.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 IN GRANTS PASS. AT GRANTS PASS, 0.8 MILE WEST ALONG 6TH STREET (U. S. HIGHWAY 99) FROM THE POST OFFICE, AT A CONCRETE BRIDGE OVER ROGUE RIVER, IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE NORTHWEST CONCRETE SIDEWALK, 4.5 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE WALK, 0.6 FOOT SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE NORTHWEST CONCRETE GUARDRAIL, AND ABOUT 1/2 FOOT HIGHER THAN THE HIGHWAY.

AT THE INTERSTECTION OF 6TH STREET AND THE ROGUE RIVER,IN THE SOUTH END OF THE WEST WALKWAY OF THE BRIDGE SPANNING THE RIVER, 3.4 M (11.2 FT) WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE STREET, AND 1.4 M (4.6 FT) NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE WALKWAY. THE MARK IS 0.2 M ABOVE THE STREET.
