The malécon is the Cuban Spanish word for seaside belvedere, although many people think it's a feature in Havana. Actually there are more Cuban cities with a malecon, like Cienfuegos or Caibarién.
But the Malécon of Habana is doubtless one of the icons of the city, a major landmark. Its first stage was concluded in 1901 and this is the date marked by the plaque we are showing here.
It's a bronze plaque, placed in the beginning of this wonderful seawall, close to one of the fortresses of Habana. The wall has been damaged and repaired by successive typhoons and tornados. A walk in the Malécon it's an usual hangout for the citizens of Habana and for visitors. Check the provided address for further information about the Malécon.
