Memorial walls depicting the history of the settlement of Port Douglas were constructed to commemorate the Centenary of Federation 1901 - 2001. A time capsule was embedded in the wall and is to be opened on Australia Day 2101.
The inscription reads
"To celebrate the Centenary of Federation these walls were officially opened on Australia Day 26th January 2001 by
HON. WARREN ENTSCH, FEDERAL MP
MIKE BERWICK, MAYOR , DOUGLAS SHIRE
GRANT LAWRENCE, CHARTER PRESIDENT
A time capsule was embedded herein by
HON.STEVE BREDHAUER, STATE MP
and
KAILEB BANNISTER BORN 18.6.99
To be opened on 26th January 2101."
