LX1927: A 62 1984 (NGS, New Milford, CT) - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This station is a National Geodetic Survey standard vertical control mark, located in New Milford, CT. It is set in the south end of a coping stone atop a culvert headwall near the southbound side of U.S. Rt. 7.:

THE MARK IS 0.35 METERS NW FROM A WITNESS POST.
THE MARK IS 0.61 M ABOVE HIGHWAY.

The description is somewhat accurate, except that the mark is actually in the southwest side of the culvert headwall, and the witness post was lopped off halfway down during a brush mowing assignment. It is still visible in spite of the damage, and the mark was recovered after digging away thirty years worth of soil accumulation on top of the coping stone.

Traffic on this roadway is rather high, and it is relatively narrow in spots up this way. Parking is limited, but not impossible.
In this case, park on the opposite side of the road from the mark, along the outside of the curve.

This culvert is close to the roadway, and you will be placing yourself in a blind spot to southbound traffic, which can be very hazardous. Wait for all traffic to pass before attempting a recovery.
