The First Presbyterian Church of Polson was organized in 1910 and this building was built at that time or shortly thereafter. This is the only building this congregation has known. It is very much typical of the period, with a large offset steeple, arched windows and a tall sanctuary. On the gable ends it retains its Queen Anne style shingle work, with square, scalloped and diamond shaped shingles showing. It also retains its beautiful stained glass windows and the original bell in the bell tower.

The sign for the church has been dedicated to the memory of Ida A. Johnson, who was a charter member of the church. Born November 27th, 1875, Ida passed away on May 18th, 1973 at the age of 97. She is interred in plot 1a-3-4 in Lakeview Cemetery in Polson. She was married to John Adolph Johnson, who passed away in 1960. Ida and John came to Polson from Hillsboro, Traill County, North Dakota.
