There were two identical welcome signs installed along Route 16 in Ossipee, New Hampshire, in 2010, celebrating the history of this scenic community as the home of the first snowmobile. The painting shows one of these early snowmobiles in a winter setting.

Virgil White developed a conversion kit for the Model T Ford in 1913 and began manufacturing them in Ossipee until the factory closed and mysteriously burned in 1929, after the business was sold to a company in Wisconsin.

A full history of this original machine can be found on the The Model T Ford Snowmobile Club

And the New York Times published and article entitled An Original Snowmobile in 2009 highlighting the history of White's machine as well as other common modifications to the Model T.
