Frederick Landeer Maur Griggs was born in Hitchin in 1876. He was a distinguished etcher, one of the first etchers to be elected to membership of the Royal Academy. In 1903 he settled at Dover’s House in Chipping Campden. He went on to create an Arts and Crafts house at New Dover’s House. He set up the Dover’s House Press.

Much has changed since 1889. The front gable and the chimney stack is still distinguishable, however the buildings to the right and left have changed markedly. The etching is in the collection of the St Albans Museum.
