Frederick Landeer Maur Griggs was born in Hitchin in 1876. He was a distinguished etcher, one of the first etchers to be elected to membership of the Royal Academy. In 1903 he settled at Dover’s House in Chipping Campden. He went on to create an Arts and Crafts house at New Dover’s House. He set up the Dover’s House Press.

The houses in the centre and to the right of the etching are still there, but the building to the left has long since been replaced. The etching is in the collection of the St Albans Museum.
